smrekov duh or smrečji duh.

spruce spirits are the guardians of spruce trees, and are seldom to be seen. even if caught unawares, they will hide into the nearest spruce-tree in the blink of an eye. slender as the trees they protect, they are near-impossible to find. however, as all spirits that are guardians of coniferous trees, the spruce spirits also have a weakness for blueberries (črnica - "blackberry", more commonly known as borovnica - "pine-berry"). after a spruce spirit has indulged in these for too long, its hiding-abilities will be severly reduced.

Nice story!

Is it real Slovenic folklore, or is it a good story you came up with :D ?

not traditional, but hey, folk-lore comes from the folk. and since i am more or less a part of it un/willingly, my ramblings might be considered folk-lore as well. afterall, folk tales usually explain natural and/or social phenomena - as did i. :) btw. it's either slovene or slovenian.

Very cool! Sometimes burls make some really interesting shapes.
:iconcezlesje:
thanks! for both comment and plus-star. :)
indeed, the burls do make wacky faces, but anthropomorphic shapes are rather rare.

scary
I've never seen those in my life.

sick tree. spruce tends to get sick rather quickly in human planted woods and groves. monoculture economic woodland.
